More Fashion Week…

Some looks from Spring 2010 Fashion Week.  I got caught up in the middle, so I’m still going through a lot of it, but here are some looks that I liked.

Resort 2010

So the resort shows are kind of old news, but I’ve been slowly making my way through them.  I know everyone’s talking about the couture shows, but since couture isn’t in my budget (although resort isn’t really, either) I thought I’d go for the looks I could actually try and replicate or lust after.

visual notes

Visual notes/thoughts on clothes/looks/styles for summer.  AKA my thoughts on getting dressed these days.  Also a wish-list of sorts

unknown 5

(I scanned, but I’m not sure from where, sorry) great basics for summer – simple shapes, light colors.  Looks great.  The bottom could be pants, shorts or a skirt and it would be equally as wonderful.

unknown 4

(again I scanned this from a French magazine, but I’m not sure which one) A more complicated summer look – the blazer is definitely too much for where I live, but still cute. I’m closer to embracing athletic apparel in non-athletic situations, but it’s been slow.

shopbopamericancrop

(from ShopBop.com’s lookbook) very nice and simple.  Ever since I saw Coco avant Chanel I’ve been searching for a great striped shirt.  This one from Rag & Bone on Shopbop.com is $115 – more than I’d like to spend on a basic piece like that.  Pretty, though.  Shorts are great too.

3.1 Phillip Lim resort 2010 3

(from Style.com) 3.1 Phillip Lim 2010 resort – I looooooove the jacket, and the skirt, and the shirt… ok, I just love.

jenni kayne resort 2010

(also from Style.com) Jenni Kayne resort 2010 – great colors and a great way to toughen up a sweet little dress/skirt.  I’m not sure how I feel about the lack of collar on the jacket, but I definitely like the general idea.

It’s nice to dream, but mostly it’s too hot to wear anything interesting.  My first concern is not melting and the second is looking good, and the third is not freezing in air conditioning.  Oh well, soon it will be winter and I’ll be wishing it were summer…

Fun for Fall

Today Style.com put up their list of the must-haves for fall 2009.

Obviously lists like this are pretty subjective, or at least they should be in a world with free-will.  But regardless, I look to the runway for inspiration and their picks aren’t bad.

Their lis with my opinions (photos after the jump):

1. Something faux – I would definitely say that fur faux or real is very of-the-moment – it’s everywhere on the streets.

2. Over-the-knee boots – see here

3. Something sexy – I’m not sure this is a trend – didn’t Justin already bring sexy back?

4. Color – I do like color, but in general I would say I don’t see this one sticking in New York or Paris

5. Something draped – This one isn’t on my must-have list, but ok, draping is flattering.

6. Leather Jacket – I would call this a classic, so it’s always a must-have.  I saw a ton of great jackets this season, and I’m still in search of one for myself.

7. Strong-shouldered jacket – meh, I’m not a fan of the 80s.  If you’re purely following trends, then this a definite must-have, I’m a little more hesitant.

8. Something surreal – um really?

9. Decorated leg – again, not sure on this one.  I’d like to change it, I think trousers would be better for this list.  I’ll post on it later, perhaps.

10. Something studded – ALWAYS.  Studs make almost anything better.

Runway trend: Strong Shoulders

shoulders3

from top – left to right: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Balmain, Alberta Feretti, Zac Posen, Richard Chai, Nina Ricci, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Luis Vuitton, Gucci, Fendi, Dries van Noten, Doo.Ri, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Derek Lam, Costume National, Calvin Klein, Balmain- again, oops!)

So this is a huge collage, I know, I don’t actually expect anyone to be able to see every photo, it’s mostly to show the number of designers that showed the look…

I was born too late in the 80s to have really participated in them or to remember them, but from the pictures I’ve seen, I don’t want them to come back.  Unfortunately, the designers in the fashion world don’t share my opinion.  Just about every runway review I read on Style.com mentioned the 80s.

The strong shoulders here aren’t too bad.  Some of them, though remind me of the fins on an old Cadillac (see Balmain, Zac Posen).

Just so long as the linebacker shoulders stay in the 80s (or on the football field) I’m fine with this one.
