Layers

So I’ve always been a believer that leggings are not pants.  With a tunic or a dress or a skirt, fine, but they are not appropriate bottoms (if you know what I mean).  However… they do make for good layering, and apparently they’re really growing on me (like Uggs…).  Here’s a set of pictures, with leggings – but they could just as easily be black jeans – but what I really like is the layered top part.  The legging part was coincidence (some are jeans!).

Nothing especially earth shattering, but great use of layers.  I wish I were a better layer-er.  Just have to keep practicing…

New Year’s resolutions:

1) Update more frequently

2) Keep resolutions…

I’ve been dressing boringly (exams, vacation) so I’ve been living vicariously through pictures and bloggers in terms of getting dressed.  Some images, just for fun.

Oops.

I’ve been feeling pretty uninspired in the clothing department.  Also super stressed as this semester entailed more work than I’d thought.  Only three more weeks!

In order to put off writing my papers I thought I’d share these in the hopes that maybe I’d find something interesting to wear tomorrow morning for my day in the library (hint: it’ll be jeans and a tshirt and sneakers again… oh well…)

The Sartorialist

So it’s turning into fall weather, which is very exciting, I like layers and long pants.  So here’re some great shots from the Scott Schuman, the Sartorialist.  Always lovely…

I love the mix of patterns and the muted colors.  The jacket is great and ever since I saw Coco avant Chanel I’ve been dying for a great striped Breton shirt.

Great shoes, for starters.  All sorts of great colors, and the wonderful cuffed pants.

A man, but great layers and colors…

Wonderful!  I’m really enjoying blazers and jackets of all sorts, and apparently black pants.  I’ve been on the hunt for a great pair of slim black slacks.  The fur looks so cozy too…

Again, great jacket, I love the different shapes and colors and tones and patterns… the short jacket with long sleeves and the longer cardigan.  The layering of the buttoned shirt under the cardigan could look stuffy, but it doesn’t at all.

ViaVerri

I love both of them, with their belted waists and their jackets/cardigans and scarves.  I wouldn’t want to dress like my boyfriend, but I think they both are fantastically dressed.

to steal a phrase…

…I die…

I don’t know how I feel about Rachel Zoe, but the phrase just works with some things, like these amaaaazing Chloe boots for fall.  I waaaaant….

Fun for Fall

Today Style.com put up their list of the must-haves for fall 2009.

Obviously lists like this are pretty subjective, or at least they should be in a world with free-will.  But regardless, I look to the runway for inspiration and their picks aren’t bad.

Their lis with my opinions (photos after the jump):

1. Something faux – I would definitely say that fur faux or real is very of-the-moment – it’s everywhere on the streets.

2. Over-the-knee boots – see here

3. Something sexy – I’m not sure this is a trend – didn’t Justin already bring sexy back?

4. Color – I do like color, but in general I would say I don’t see this one sticking in New York or Paris

5. Something draped – This one isn’t on my must-have list, but ok, draping is flattering.

6. Leather Jacket – I would call this a classic, so it’s always a must-have.  I saw a ton of great jackets this season, and I’m still in search of one for myself.

7. Strong-shouldered jacket – meh, I’m not a fan of the 80s.  If you’re purely following trends, then this a definite must-have, I’m a little more hesitant.

8. Something surreal – um really?

9. Decorated leg – again, not sure on this one.  I’d like to change it, I think trousers would be better for this list.  I’ll post on it later, perhaps.

10. Something studded – ALWAYS.  Studs make almost anything better.

Runway Trend: Sheer

Sheer

(top to bottom left to right: Vera Wang, Vena Cava, Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli, Richard Chai, Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler, Proenza Schouler again, Luella Bartley, Givenchy, [2nd row] Ferragamo, Emanuel Ungaro, Doo.Ri, Costume National, Collette Dinnigan,Christopher Kane, Christian Lacroix, Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, Anna Sui, Alexander Wang, Alexander Wang again)

So, again, I don’t really expect anyone to get a truly good idea of what the dresses looked like from this massive collage, but it does give you a vague idea of how many designers showed sheer pieces or pieces with sheer elements.
