Resort 2010

So the resort shows are kind of old news, but I’ve been slowly making my way through them.  I know everyone’s talking about the couture shows, but since couture isn’t in my budget (although resort isn’t really, either) I thought I’d go for the looks I could actually try and replicate or lust after.

Runway Trend: Sheer

Sheer

(top to bottom left to right: Vera Wang, Vena Cava, Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli, Richard Chai, Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler, Proenza Schouler again, Luella Bartley, Givenchy, [2nd row] Ferragamo, Emanuel Ungaro, Doo.Ri, Costume National, Collette Dinnigan,Christopher Kane, Christian Lacroix, Calvin Klein, Bottega Veneta, Anna Sui, Alexander Wang, Alexander Wang again)

So, again, I don’t really expect anyone to get a truly good idea of what the dresses looked like from this massive collage, but it does give you a vague idea of how many designers showed sheer pieces or pieces with sheer elements.

Runway trend: Strong Shoulders

shoulders3

from top – left to right: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Balmain, Alberta Feretti, Zac Posen, Richard Chai, Nina Ricci, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Luis Vuitton, Gucci, Fendi, Dries van Noten, Doo.Ri, Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg, Derek Lam, Costume National, Calvin Klein, Balmain- again, oops!)

So this is a huge collage, I know, I don’t actually expect anyone to be able to see every photo, it’s mostly to show the number of designers that showed the look…

I was born too late in the 80s to have really participated in them or to remember them, but from the pictures I’ve seen, I don’t want them to come back.  Unfortunately, the designers in the fashion world don’t share my opinion.  Just about every runway review I read on Style.com mentioned the 80s.

The strong shoulders here aren’t too bad.  Some of them, though remind me of the fins on an old Cadillac (see Balmain, Zac Posen).

Just so long as the linebacker shoulders stay in the 80s (or on the football field) I’m fine with this one.
